‘The Same Cave’ is Pascal Babare’s 5th LP, and his first solo departure from folk songs into electronic music. Imagined and realised throughout 2021 in his Melbourne home studio, the project began spontaneously – late nights on his computer experimenting with mangling found sounds and old recordings – but quickly became more conceptually grounded.

Taking the lush instrument and vocal parts from his 2019 folk LP ‘Cave Without A Name’ and digitally re-appropriating them, Babare began writing a new suite of highly detailed, melodically rich electronic pieces. Undulating between the ambient expanse of Dolf to the frenetic pulsing rhythms of Meth Mote II – from the gentle, lilting loops of Sedentu Ohuha to the intense textural surges of Tentacle Cherl – the songs share DNA with their folk song counterparts, yet exist in an entirely different musical dimension.

‘The Same Cave’ is a reimagining, in granular form, of a personal practice - the reinvention of an artist transitioning to a new paradigm in their career and demonstrates how electronic sound has the potential to open a portal to new sonic worlds for artists who traditionally work outside of its boundaries.
